We understand.

You give and give. You provide them with the best veterinary care and buy them lots of toys and good food. You treat them with unconditional love. Yet they still behave in ways that hurt and upset you. It may be causing you such distress that it is affecting other parts of your life. Living with a challenging dog can make you feel anxious, trapped, scared and overwhelmed. We've been there.

Things can start to change as soon as you get your consultation.

A person and a mixed breed dog look into eachothers eyes, the human smiling and the dog looking relaxed and expectant of good things.

Unconditional love is powerful. It's your superpower.

Let us show you how you can turn around your relationship with your dog so you can live a happier and more harmonious life together.

Our Training Method

Science tells us that positive reinforcement dog training gives us the best results. It's the best thing for the dog, and it's something that the whole family can participate in. It's a fun, enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

Our approach to training is both ethical and effective. Instead of using punishment to suppress behavior, we change behavior by addressing the underlying emotions of the dog. Based on current scientific evidence, The American Society for Veterinary Behaviorists recommends that only reward-based training methods are used for all dog training, including the treatment of behavior problems. You can feel confident that your individualized training program utilizes the latest evidence-based techniques.

No dominance theory, no intimidation, no pain, no fear, just good training. It's science!

Testimonials

I cannot express in words, the enormous amount of gratitude we have for Ash! She has made a tremendous impact on our lives and the lives of our two dogs. We had hired many trainers in the past who employed negative reinforcement techniques, and only made our situation worse. We were desperately seeking someone who understood our situation, but trained in a way that was compassionate and caring. Then we found Ash and our world transformed! Ash is highly, highly knowledgeable and her techniques are everything we were looking for. Within a short amount of time, we saw our two reactive dogs transform into calm, well behaved and peaceful dogs. We followed her advice and training and continue to remain diligent, and every day we reach new milestones. Ash is compassionate and passionate in her work. It is evident that she loves animals, and her work is a reflection of that love. If you are looking for the right trainer who will support you, encourage you and show you the right way to build a bond with your dog, then Ash is your trainer!

We loved working with Ash! They were knowledgeable, patient, and non-judgmental, and really helped us understand our dog better. Working with Ash has taught us so much about what our dog is experiencing and how we can give her a richer, healthier life. I would absolutely recommend them for people with anxious and/or reactive dogs, especially if you’re interested in a force-free approach.
— Chuck

There are no words to explain how thankful we are for Ash. I found Ash’s Instagram when we were in a dire situation after bringing home our baby and our dog was struggling majorly. Ash responded immediately and called me. We had done training to prepare our dog but nothing prepared us for how she reacted to the baby. Ash immediately stepped up to help us with boarding. Ash listened to us cry, heard our concerns, and took the best care of our dog while she couldn’t be with us. It was truly the hardest thing we ever went through and we have no idea what we would have done without Ash. Ash helped us navigate our options and supported us along the way. We went to Ash to train with our dog and baby every week, and Ash truly went above and beyond for us and our dog. Without Ash’s training and support I am not sure what we would have done. We now have our dog back with us, thanks to Ash. If you are looking for a trainer, Ash is extremely knowledgeable, caring, and supportive. We are forever grateful for her.

Ash is a life saver!! We recently rescued a wonderful pit-mix who is super sweet but had some aggression issues. Ash educated us about how aggression is fear-based and how the best ways to help our pup is to learn to understand his body language so we can best meet his needs and regulate his nervous system. And I must say the results are stellar. It’s a long process to help our pup overcome his past experiences, but very worth it.
I feel so much more secure and confident with all the knowledge that I learned during our training sessions and my pup’s behavior is noticeably better. He continues to improve day after day as I continue to practice what I learned from Ash.
If you are at all on the fence about training, please give her a try! I wish more people knew about her.
Thanks to Ash, my sweet dog is happy, safe and much less anxious and I feel very well equipped to understand his needs and take care of him!

Ash is a fantastic trainer. We have been working with Ash with two dogs (one a mini schnauzer and the other a collie mix, both with different challenges.) we have seen a ton of improvement so far, and I can tell that both dogs are happier and more enriched…. And most importantly, are much better “behaved.” I was skeptical about more reward-based training at first, but it’s undeniable that it’s working. :) Ash helps you understand the “why” behind everything you learn and gives you the tools you need to address your pet’s unique “issues.” We love working with Ash and are so so so thrilled with the progress we have made so far!! 😊

Ash has been a life saver for us!! We recently adopted a 3 year old pit bull, Lucy, who was an owner surrender and was in the shelter for 6 months. Lucy was very shy and afraid of anything that moves. We couldn’t even take Lucy outside to go to the bathroom without her lunging at a stranger down the street. We couldn’t have people over. We couldn’t even be in the same realm as another dog. We had a trainer before Ash, who made Lucy’s fear and reactivity to humans and dogs even worse and wasn’t fully reward based. Ash was not afraid of Lucy, like our previous trainer, and made it feel like there was hope for Lucy. Ash has taught us so many techniques and tips we can finally have people over again! I can’t recommend Ash enough as she understands dogs and their owners when it comes to reactivity or aggression. She was very understanding of Lucy’s emotions and genuinely wants her to live a happy and stress free life! You don’t find that in other trainers.”
— Brittany

Before working with Ashleigh, just walking down from the second floor of our building to take Waffles out to go to the bathroom gave me a huge amount of stress and anxiety. I was constantly terrified of him biting another person or dog. After his first session with her I could already tell he was more happy and he was less stressed than he’d been in months. It felt like I was getting my sweet boy back. After a few weeks of working with her, I no longer felt overwhelmed by the idea of taking him outside and encountering other people and dogs because she has given us both all the tools we need to be successful. It’s SO exciting to see the progress he’s making. I don’t know what we would have done without Ashleigh!

My family calls Ash “our dog whisperer”. She has been nothing short of amazing in helping us train and care for our 2 fur babies! When our littlest one got really ill and was near his last days, I honestly do not know how we would have gotten through it without Ash’s assistance and true care and love for him. We trust her more than anyone we know with our pets! She has such a true love and compassion for dogs, and they definitely seem to feel that and respond very well to her! You will not be disappointed in any services she provides, your dogs are always in great care with her!

We could not be more grateful for the vast improvements we’ve seen not only in our dogs’ behavior but their quality of life since starting working with My Sidekick Dog Training. Ash focuses not only on training for desirable behaviors, but also on how your dog is feeling in situations and how to understand their boundaries to keep them comfortable and safe. One of our dogs has some genetic behavioral challenges and working with Ash has taken us from her not being able to stay below her threshold when seeing new people to her being able to have people come into our home and yard without any issue. Additionally, she has helped us get access to medical intervention when needed, and has acted as a sounding board in difficult situations we’ve been through. Ash is also highly involved in the rescue community, and is always raising her hand to help dogs and owners in need.

Ash has been amazing with my boy! He was very reactive to people and dogs. After only 4 weeks the difference is amazing! People were outside our house and he didn’t even care about them. He was curious and not freaking out!

I can’t even begin to tell you how much we love Ash. We wanted Willow to learn basic ettiquette. What we didn’t realize was how much fun this was going to be for her and for us. The mental stimulation alone is a gift. And we have so much fun together! Every skill is a game we get to play together, and who doesn’t love being rewarded with tasty food? The bonus is that my highly intelligent and independent work dog is learning how to channel her energy and listen to her Mom and Dad. Now excuse us; Willow needs to go practice her tricks <3

I have a had a great experience getting training, management advice, and moral support to help me and my dog who has dog reactivity, high prey drive, and anxiety. It can be incredibly stressful and isolating realizing a newly adopted pet struggles with behavior issues and Ash was able to assess my dog, give concrete advice for safety and management in the day to day, refer us to vet behaviorists and other resources, and help extensively with training. We have done training session packages as well as some board and train. It is a slow journey and there are no quick or exciting fixes with serious behavior cases, but we have been so grateful to have such an experienced, thoughtful, and compassionate trainer.

We learned so much from working with Ash, from the first consultation to the final email full of information and further training suggestions. Ash’s knowledge of dogs is so apparent and she gave us insights into our own reactive pup that have helped us immensely. Pickle is a work in progress but after weeks of training with Ash we feel we have the tools and insight to keep our training journey going and to understand her better than we ever have before. Ash was very thorough, helping us examine all aspects of Pickle’s daily experience to help us give her the best possible training outcome. She also helped us find a Vet that was better suited to Pickle’s disposition and would discuss behavioral medication with us. I’m so grateful to have met Ash, for the progress we’ve made and for her dedication to these sweet rescue animals.

Working with Ash has been a game changer for me and my partner after adopting our dog, Reuben! Once we brought him home, Reuben started exhibiting a number of fear-based aggressive behaviors that we were not aware of when we adopted him. Ash helped us immediately identify what triggered his behavior and how we could start to train those behaviors out with positive reinforcement, along with general tips on how to help him destress and settle down. Even after we finished our training sessions, Ash has continued to go above and beyond, helping us find the best resources for our particular dog (such as a fear-free groomer) and continuing to give advice when needed. We’ve seen such a huge difference in Reuben since training with Ash and are excited to see him continue to improve and trust us!
